Meeting Craig Silvey

We first met Craig Silvey in 2005 when we read his novel, Rhubarb. Rhubarb was chosen as the"One Book" for the Perth International Writers' Festival that year. It was also a part of the national "Books Alive" campaign and Craig Silvey received the Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Novelist Award that year. Rhubarb was pretty special to us as it is set in Fremantle, Western Australia. There were so many things about the novel that we identified with. We loved his beautiful descriptions and the book was an experience we truly enjoyed. Amazingly enough, Rhubarb was written when Craig was only 17.

In 2007 Craig released a picture book "The World According to Warren". Warren is the guide-dog from Rhubarb.... and the book is about everything through Warren's eyes. Readers who are familiar with Fremantle will recognise the pictures and places in the book.

Today's most entertaining author talk was about his latest book, Jasper Jones. The ending was kept a secret but we did hear quite a bit about Craig's writing and how the book came to be. Some of us have already read the book and highly recommend it. We have found some links of Craig Silvey talking about the book:

Craig Silvey is also a singer and composer and he is with a band called The Nancy Sikes.
