Wednesday, 7th December - Christmas Dinner at Char Char Bull, Fremantle

Tonight we met at Char Char Bull in Freo for our end of year Christmas gathering. All of us were there except for Ge and De who were unable to make it this year, and they were missed. We were lucky to have Sa join us though, and it was a wonderful chance to catch up as we haven't seen her for ages. It was a lovely evening and we had the most delicious meal.  The weather is warming up at our end of the world but fortunately for us, it was pleasantly cool this evening.  It is hard to believe that a whole year has gone by so quickly.  We had created a bookmark with all of our book covers on it to remind us of  the books that we read over the years.  We reminisced about some of our favourite reads.  It is amazing how quickly we forget what we've read, once we start reading something else... for memories of some of the books were quite vague. Here is a snap-shot of all of our reads so far ....   Looking at the covers triggered different memories for each of us.  Click on the picture to get a better look at the covers, or on the link below which will take you to the LT website.

We also shared the books we read last month.  Some of the books mentioned today were Tracy Chevaliers Virgin Blue, He's read for this month, a touch of historical fiction which she thoroughly enjoyed. Ca recommends The Earth hums in B Flat by Mari Strachan, written from the point of view of an innocent child. She also read A Visit From Goon Squad  by Jennifer Egan, which she says was excellent! There is even a chapter written in power-point slides .... most unusual, but it worked quite well.  An's book Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo was passed around.  An also enjoyed Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland.  Fra is reading Cutting for Stone, set in Ethiopia which she recommends as a fascinating read.

We talked about so many other things including getting ready for Christmas. Some will be travelling away during the holls. It is always great to have this time together !!  We next meet in early February as we take a short break for Christmas and the New Year.  We will be reading Ant's choice over the holls - The Help by Kathryn Stockett which is to be discussed at February's meeting.
